Postdoctoral Research Position is Available
A postdoctoral research position is available, starting January 2009, in the ‘halogen bonding group’ headed by Dr. Mate Erdelyi. The work will be performed at the Organic Chemistry Institute of Gothenburg University and at the Swedish NMR Centre.
Our Institute is located in the heart of Gothenburg and has strong collaborations with the Chalmers Technical University, the Swedish NMR Centre and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, thereby being part of one of the strongest and best-equipped European biomedical research centres.
Research project:
The purpose of the project is the investigation of the properties of halogen bonds in solution with spectroscopic and computational methods. The work includes the synthesis of model compounds and their structural studies with focus on novel NMR techniques. It offers an excellent opportunity for the candidate to get further theoretical and practical experience with multinuclear, multidimensional solution NMR spectroscopy and deepen her/his knowledge in physical organic chemistry.
Required qualifications:
The applicant should hold a Ph.D in Chemistry/Pharmacy or in a related field, or have her/his thesis defense date before January 1, 2009. A strong knowledge and practical experience in synthetic organic chemistry is required. Familiarity and experience with high-resolution NMR spectroscopy would be appreciated. Fluency in English, a hard working attitude and ability to learn new techniques is expected.
